About the Maker

Hello, and welcome. I’m Sophia and I've always been drawn to the process of making, whether it was knitting sweaters, making jam, or creating ceramic kitchen sets. A few years ago I discovered metal smithing, and have been completely enamoured with the process ever since. I have become enamoured with soaking in landscapes, noticing all of the details, and then trying to create pieces of jewelry that replicate those ecosystems. I am so excited to be sharing my art with you all! It's a journey, a process, a practice; to make art and come back to it even when it's challenging or my mind is empty of new ideas. But I hope to continue showing up to my bench, and see how my ideas and work evolve.

About the Jewelry

Boreal Silver Jewelry is a small jewelry business owned and run by Sophia Walling-Bell, that creates wild, rustic, and elegant jewelry, aiming for functional art that not only looks nice, but feels good too. Inspired by the colors and motifs of the natural world, each piece is sculpted from the elemental materials of metal, stone and fire to create tangible reminders of the importance of wild and open spaces. I aim to be as sustainable as possible, always learning new ways to improve and grow. By recycling excess silver scraps, working to source ethical stones, eliminating plastic packaging, and using solar power when possible, I hope to create a positive impact with my art, and create distinct reminders of the importance of the natural world. I am located in Bellingham, WA.
